Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Wildcats Defeat Phoenix, 70-55

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.- The Wilson women's basketball team was in action today for the second day in a row, traveling to Penn College for a non-conference showdown with the Wildcats. The Phoenix came up short against the Wildcats, as they fall to 2-13 on the season.

How It Happened: Penn College opened up the game outscoring the Phoenix 10-3 before ending the first quarter leading 18-8. The Wildcats would take their largest lead of the game, 29-13, midway through the second quarter but not before the Phoenix began to chip away at the deficit. Three-pointers from Michaela Singer (Annville, Pa., Annville-Cleona) and Jordyn Day (Richmond, Va, Varina) made the score 29-19. Then a bucket from Samira Murphy (Virginia Beach, Va., Great Bridge Christian) and another three from Singer brought the score to 29-24, capping off an 11-0 Wilson run. Penn College went on to take an eight-point lead into the locker room, as the Phoenix finished the first half shooting 25% from the floor. Samira Murphy led Wilson at the break with 9 points.

After trailing by 13 early in the third quarter, the Phoenix used a 7-0 run to get back within 6 and would head into the final period down just 8. An early 7-0 scoring spurt by the Wildcats put them ahead 58-44, and with just under 5 minutes remaining they led 61-48. Wilson picked up some late momentum using a 7-0 run of their own to cut their deficit to just 7 with 3 minutes to play. The Phoenix struggled down the stretch to score points as they were outscored 9-1 in the final few minutes, falling 70-55.

Inside the Box Score: Jordyn Day led Wilson with 16 points, 10 of which came in the second half. Samira Murphy ended the night with 15 points and 7 boards while Michaela Singer added 12 points and 7 rebounds. The Phoenix finished the game shooting just 27% from the field but were able to shoot 78% from the foul line.
