Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Cyclones Cruise Past Phoenix

CENTENARY, N.J.- The Wilson women's basketball team hit the road this afternoon for a CSAC match up against the Cyclones of Centenary University. The Phoenix were defeated in the contest by a score of 80-56 to fall to 2-12 overall and 1-9 in conference play.

How It Happened: The Cyclones came out of the gates hot, going on an 18-2 run to start the game and finishing the first quarter ahead 20-5. Wilson struggled shooting from the field in the quarter as they only found the bottom of the bucket once in the period.

After Ta'Niya Kees (Baltimore, Md., Our Lady of Mount Carmel School) started the second quarter with a layup, the Cyclones used a 7-0 run to take a 20-point lead. The Phoenix would go into halftime trailing 43-20, after shooting 20% in the first half.

The Phoenix were able to cut their deficit to 18 after Samira Murphy (Virginia Beach, Va., Great Bridge Christian) knocked down a three early in the third quarter, but the Cyclones quickly pushed their lead up to 25 with a 9-2 run, holding a 58-33 advantage. At the end of the third quarter, Centenary held a commanding 64-35 lead. Wilson finished the game strong by winning the fourth quarter 21-16, but would ultimately fall to the Cyclones 80-56.

Inside the Box Score: Wilson finished the game shooting 31% from the field and 28% from three. Jordyn Day (Richmond, Va, Varina) led the Phoenix with 18 points with 15 of her 18 coming from three-point land. Ta'Niya Kees also finished in double figures, putting up 16 points while shooting 7-8 from the foul line. Samira Murphy turned in a solid effort with 7 points and 7 rebounds.

Up Next: The Phoenix will have a quick turnaround as they travel to Penn College tomorrow for a non-conference game set to start at 3:00 p.m.
