Giants Cruise Past Phoenix

LA PLUME, Pa.- The Wilson women's basketball team took on the Giants of Keystone College this afternoon in another Colonial States Athletic Conference match up. Keystone was able to roll to a 90-52 victory over the Phoenix as they had two players score over twenty points. With the loss, Wilson falls to 1-10 on the season and drops to 0-7 in CSAC play while the Giants improve to 7-0. 

How It Happened: Keystone started the game on an 11-2 run in the first 4 minutes of play and later pushed the score up to 19-8. The Giants finished the first quarter shooting 62% from the field and 6 of 9 from three as they ended the period leading 26-11. Wilson struggled from the field early on, ending the quarter on 4 of 14 shooting from the field. 

The Giants used a 9-3 run at the beginning of the second quarter to push their lead up to 19 with 5 minutes remaining in the half. With a minute left in the quarter, Keystone was able to take a 24-point lead. The Phoenix would head into halftime trailing 45-22 as they continued to struggle from the field. Ta'Niya Kees (Baltimore, Md., Our Lady of Mount Carmel School) led the Phoenix in the second quarter with six points on a pair of three-pointers. 

Keystone took a comfortable 34-point lead as they used an 11-0 run to start the second half to move the score to 56-22. Wilson ended the run with a three from Jordyn Day (Richmond, Va, Varina) and a pair of free throws from Samira Murphy (Virginia Beach, Va., Great Bridge Christian), but the Giants went on to hit four straight three-pointers to move ahead 68-27. The Phoenix gained some confidence at the end of the third quarter as they finished the period on an 8-3 run with buckets coming from Samira Murphy, Brittany Washburn (Sandy Hook, Va., Salem Christian), and Jordyn Day

The Giants went on to outscore the Phoenix in the final quarter, 15-11, to walk away with their seventh conference victory this season. 

Inside the Box Score: Wilson shot 31% from the field for the game while shooting 32% from three. Samira Murphy led the Phoenix with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Ta'Niya Kees finished with 11 points, including 3 three-pointers, while also dishing out 4 assists. Tori Cole also turned in a solid effort with 7 points and 7 rebounds. 

Up Next: The Phoenix are back in action this Wednesday when they travel to Rosemont College for another CSAC battle with tip-off set for 6:00 p.m.
