Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

First Half Goal Leads to Men's Soccer Loss Against PSU Brandywine


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.- The Wilson men's soccer team took on the visiting Lions of Penn State Brandywine this afternoon in a physical nonconference battle. Brandywine (8-4-1) needed just one goal that came in the thirty-second minute to defeat the Phoenix (3-8), 1-0. 

How It Happened: Brandywine took a fortunate bounce over the Phoenix goaltender's head and put it in the back of the net to go-ahead 1-0 late in the first half.

Wilson was unable to answer before the half as the Lions held the 1-0 lead. The Phoenix registered just one shot in the half that came from freshman, Ryder Wallace (Jim Thorpe, Pa., Jim Thorpe). 

Less than a minute into the second half the Lions fired a shot toward the net that new Phoenix keeper Jarrett Rickerds (Knoxville, Md., Boonsboro) scooped up for a save. The Phoenix offense got going later in the sixty-first minute as Garrick Hill (Chambersburg, Pa., Chambersburg) missed a shot just high.

Hill had an even better scoring chance in the eighty-fifth minute that was saved at the top of the net. Wilson took five shots in the half but could not capitalize on any chances before time expired. 

Inside the Box Score: Shots were 11-6 in favor of the Lions and shots on goal were 4-3 also in favor of Brandywine. The Lions also took 10 corner kicks while Wilson had none. The physical play resulted in a total of 34 fouls and 8 cards. Garrick Hill led the Phoenix will 3 shots, including 2 on goal. 

Up Next: The Phoenix will kick-off Colonial States Athletic Conference play this Saturday on the road as they take on the College of St. Elizabeth (2-6-1, 0-1 CSAC) at 2:00 p.m.
