Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Phoenix Torch Eagles

MORRISTOWN, NJ - The Wilson College men's soccer team opened Colonial States Athletic Conference play this afternoon at the College of Saint Elizabeth. The Phoenix (3-8, 1-0 CSAC) defeated the Eagles (2-8-1, 0-2 CSAC) by a final score of 5-3.

How It Happened: The Phoenix jumped out to a 4-0 lead before halftime. Senior Dan Perry (London, England, Okanagan Secondary) tallied the first goal on a penalty kick. A couple of minutes later sophomore Victor Celleri took a pass from freshman Christopher Sosa (Mechanicsburg, PA., Mechanicsburg) and beat the goalie for a 2-0 lead. Five minutes later Celleri again found the back of the net, this time with an assist from freshman Terrell Samuels (Chambersburg, PA., Chambersburg). Later in the half, Perry laid a pass through the middle and freshman Brandom Rios (Carolina, Puerto Rico, Colegio Bautista De Carolina) beat the defender and the keeper for a 4-0 Phoenix advantage. The defense was solid for the visitors in the half as they allowed only three shots on goal and senior goalkeeper Jarrett Rickerds (Knoxville, Md., Boonsboro) denied all three attempts and the team took a 4-0 lead into the break. The second half started off much different for the Phoenix as the Eagles tallied a pair if quick goals to cut their deficit in half less than ten minutes into the half. The pressure really got tight a goal in the seventy-second minute by the Eagles pulled the hosts within one point at 4-3. Two minutes after the Eagles pulled within one, the Phoenix got a shot from Perry that the keeper saved near the crossbar but Samuels was there to put it back in to give the Phoenix some breathing room at 5-3. The Eagles were only able to put one more shot on goal as the Phoenix defense locked them down and Rickerds tallied one more save to preserve the 5-3 CSAC win.

Inside the Box Score: The Phoenix were out shot 18-15 but held an 8-7 edge in shots on goal. Celleri's two goals were his firsts of the season.
