Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Phoenix Slash Seahawks

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.- The Wilson College women's volleyball team took on the visiting Seahawks from St. Mary's College of Maryland this evening in a nonconference match. Wilson (7-6) took the match three sets to one over the Seahawks (4-10) in an intense back-and-forth battle.

How It Happened: In the first set, the two teams traded points until St. Mary's gained a slight advantage over the Phoenix, taking a 16-11 lead. The Phoenix cut their deficit to three before the Seahawks went back up 19-14.

Trailing 24-21 with their backs against the wall in the first set, the Phoenix rattled off four straight points to take a 25-24 lead. Both teams then traded points until the Phoenix scored three straight points to win the set 34-32, as Tia Jones (Springfield, Va., Lake Braddock) ended things with a kill.

The second set began with the Seahawks jumping out to 9-5 lead before the Phoenix came right back to bring the score to 9-8. Once again both teams swapped points as neither team could gain more than a one-point advantage.

St. Mary's did gain some breathing room, taking a 21-17 lead, but the Phoenix showed their relentless effort once again, scoring four consecutive points to tie things at 21. The Seahawks put an end to the Phoenix momentum by scoring four of the next six points to win the set, 25-23.

The third set saw a continued back-and-forth contest, and with things tied at 20, the Phoenix collected two points to hold a 22-20 lead. St. Mary's answered and tied the game at 22 before Wilson went back up 24-22 and needed just one point to win the set.

The Seahawks answered yet again and tied the set but Tioleaoauli Posiulai (Waipahu, Hawaii., University Laboratory School) of Wilson finished that set with two kills to give her team the 26-24 win.

St. Mary's took an early 9-5 lead over Wilson but saw their lead quickly evaporate as the Phoenix scored 5 of the next 6 points to tie things at 10. The Phoenix later took a 20-16 lead and would finish out the fourth set on top 25-19, giving them a 3-1 match victory.

Inside the Box Score: The Phoenix finished the night with 50 kills, 49 digs, and 12 services aces. Anika Eigen-Zucchi (Washington, D.C., St. Johns College High School) led the Phoenix with 20 kills and 15 digs while Tioleaoauli Posiulai added 12.
