Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Knights Conquer Phoenix

BUENA VISTA, Va. - The Wilson College men's soccer team took to the road this afternoon for a nonconference match against the Knights of Southern Virginia University. The Phoenix (2-6, 0-0) were defeated by the Knights (2-7, 0-0) by a final score of 2-0.

How It Happened: Wilson would come out hot as freshman Ryder Wallace (Jim Thorpe, PA., Jim Thorpe) was able to launch a shot on goal in within the first minute of the opening half, but could not sneak it past the keeper. But the Knights would answer back as they were able to pass through the defense and sneak one past senior goalkeeper Dan Perry (London, England, Okanagan Secondary), making it 1-0 in the nineteenth minute of play. Both teams would struggle to find their rhythm in the half as there were five yellow cards and one red card handed out in the first half alone. Wilson would enter halftime still trailing, 1-0.

In the second half, the Phoenix would have several opportunities to find the back of the net but were unsuccessful. Freshmen Wallace, Joe Pacheco (Jonesboro, ARK., The Academies at Jonesboro), Garrick Hill (Chambersburg, PA., Chambersburg), Juan Lamy (Clarksburg, MD., Living Grace Christian School), Aaron Harrison (Archbald, PA., Valley View), and sophomore Brandt Mellott (Chambersburg, PA., Chambersburg) were all able to get shots off but could not capitalize. Both teams continued to struggle to find their tempo as the cards would continue for both teams as there were six more yellow cards assessed in the period. Wilson, despite a valiant effort, would go on to lose by a final score of 2-0.

Inside the Box Score: Both teams played physical as there were 11 yellow cards and one red card handed out during the match. All together both teams finished with a total of 27 fouls. The Phoenix outshot the Knights 19-9 with nine of Wilson's shots on goal. Wilson also led both teams with a total of five corner kicks.

Up Next: The men's soccer team will be back in action this Thursday, September 26, where they will take the Griffins of Gwynedd Mercy University on the road starting at 6:00 p.m.
