Women's Volleyball Takes Two on the Road

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Wilson College women's volleyball team took on a pair of teams earlier this afternoon in a tri-match. The Phoenix (2-2) faced off against Aggies of Delaware Valley University (0-3) and the Fighting Squirrels of Mary Baldwin University (1-3) and defeated both teams with scores of 3-0 and 3-1, respectively. 

Game 1: Wilson took on the Aggies in game one. The Phoenix took down the Delaware Valley by a score of three sets to none with scores of 25-20, 25-23, and 25-13. Sophomore Tioleaoauli Posiulai (Waipahu, HI., University Laboratory School) led Wilson with 13 kills, sophomore Tia Jones (Springfield, VA., Lake Braddock) had 11 and freshman Anika Eigen-Zucchi (Washington, D.C., St. Johns College High School) finished with four. Freshman Jenna Mongold (Mercersburg, PA., James Buchanan) would go on to finish with 21 assists on the night. 

All together the Phoenix finished with 32 kills on 139 attempts against 19 errors for a hitting percentage of .094 while the Aggies finished with 24 kills on 129 attempts against 23 errors for a hitting percentage of .008. Wilson also led with nine aces and 81 digs. 

Game 2: Wilson faced the Fighting Squirrels in the second and final game of the afternoon. The Phoenix walked away with another victory as they went on the win three sets to one with scores of 25-23, 26-24, 23-25, and 25-19. This time Jones led the team with 17 kills while Posiulai finished with 11 and junior Lizzy Farnes (Coconut Creek, Fla., Coral Springs) finished with six. Mongold managed to rack up 30 assists in this victory. 

Wilson would finish with 41 kills on 166 attempts against 22 errors for a hitting percentage of .114 while their opponents finished with 50 kills on 179 attempts against 31 errors to give them a hitting percentage of .106. The Phoenix finished the game with 10 aces and five blocks. 

Up Next: The Phoenix will continue their road skid with a trip to Elizabethtown College on September 4 where they will take on the Blue Jays at 7:00 p.m.
