Second Half Goals Leads Men's Soccer to Victory

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College men's soccer team was in action this afternoon, for the second time in two days. This time the squared off against the Wildcats of Penn College of Technology. The Phoenix (1-1) defeated the Wildcats (0-2) by a final score of 2-1.

How it Happened: Both teams came out firing early in the first half. After several shots on goal, Penn College was able to strike first and find the back of the net, making the score to 1-0. Sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Hetzer (Chambersburg, PA., Cumberland Valley Christian) and the rest of the Phoenix defense were able to keep the Wildcat offense at bay as Wilson would enter halftime still trailing, 1-0. 

In the second half, the Phoenix would get things rolling and even the score at 1 apiece. Freshman Joe Pacheco (Jonesboro, ARK., The Academies at Jonesboro) was able to sink a shot past the keeper, off an assist from senior Dan Perry (London, England, Okanagan Secondary), that evened things up in the fifty-eighth minute of play. 

Moments later, Wilson would pull ahead. This time freshman Garrick Hill (Chambersburg, PA., Chambersburg) was able to capitalize on a Pacheco assist, tipping the score to 2-1 in favor of the Phoenix. 

The defense would step up in a big way for the rest of the game. Penn College threw everything at the Wilson defense but the Phoenix kept defending and warded off the Wildcat offense. Wilson would walk away with the 2-1 victory. 

Inside the Box Score: Hetzer received the nod in goal this afternoon as he would finish with 5 saves. Pacheco and Hill each finished with a goal, their firsts in their college career, while Perry and Pacheco each finished with an assist. The Wildcats led the game with 11 shots with seven of them on target while Wilson finished with five shots with four of them on target. 

Up Next: The Phoenix will be back in action on September 4 at 6:00 p.m. where they will face the Hornets of Shenandoah University (0-1). This game will be held at Shippensburg University in Shippensburg, Pa.
