Phoenix Win One in CSAC Softball Championship

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.- The Wilson College softball team got set to play in the opening rounds of the 2019 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) softball championship, that took place earlier today. The Phoenix (25-7-2) took down the Cyclones of Centenary University by a score of 2-0 in the opener and was delayed in the top of the fourth inning of the nightcap against Cedar Crest College with the score 3-0 in favor of the Falcons.

Game 1: Junior Megan Potter (Hagerstown, Md., South Hagerstown) got the start in the circle for Wilson. She took control of the game early and was able to keep the Cyclone offense at bay. The offense would support her in a huge way and was able to add a run in the bottom half of the first. After junior Alison Shockey (Greencastle, Pa., Greencastle-Antrim) was able to reach base on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning, freshman Taylor Durant (Woodinville, Wash., Monroe) would step-up and slap a double that drove in Shockey; making the score 1-0 Wilson.

With Potter continuing to deal at the mound, the Phoenix would get their bats going again. Sophomore Katey Roth (Lebanon, PA., Lebanon) would get the inning started with a single and then, later in the inning, Durant would strike again. This time she was able to drive in Roth but was called out on the play at first. This tipped the score to 2-0 in favor of Wilson.

Potter would go on to earn the shutout victory as the Blue and White marched to a 2-0 victory over the Cyclones.

Inside the Box Score: Durant had a huge game for the Phoenix going 2-3 with a double and two RBIs. Roth finished by going 1-2 with a walk, Shockey went 1-3, and sophomore Meghan Bradley (Warrington, PA., Central Bucks South) also went 1-3. Potter pitched for win number 18 of the season, dealing four strikeouts. The Phoenix finished with two runs on five hits and no errors while Centenary finished with no runs on three and two errors.

Game 2: The second game for the Phoenix, against Cedar Crest College, was postponed until tomorrow morning with the score 3-0 going into the top of the fourth inning.
