CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. - The Wilson College softball team traveled to take on the twelfth ranked Saints of Thomas More University in the opening round of the 2019 NCAA Division III Regional Championship. The Phoenix (27-7-2, 14-0 CSAC) were defeated by the Saints (33-9) by a score of 7-0.
How It Happened: Wilson came into this game with a ton of energy as they tried to get things going early. After a scoreless top of the first, the Phoenix took to the field where junior
Megan Potter (Hagerstown, Md., South Hagerstown) got the start in the circle and was able to work out of a jam late in the inning.
Moving ahead to the top of the third, with the score still tied at 0-0, Wilson looked to threaten Thomas More. Freshman
Taylor Durant (Woodinville, Wash., Monroe) got things going for the Phoenix with a hard-hit single down the left field line. After sophomore
Amber Rexrode (Annville, PA., Annville Cleona) came into pinch run, the next batter junior
Jennifer Cail (Lisle, IL, Lisle) would drive her to third on a single back up the middle. Wilson could not capitalize in the inning as they left two runners on base. The Saints responded by taking a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning.
Thomas More would go on to take the opening round game by a final score of 7-0.
Inside the Box Score: The Phoenix were able to tally up six hits in the loss and no errors.
Durant finished going 2-3 and
Carty went 1-2 along with being hit by a pitch.
Cail, freshman
Jessica Kosheba (Marietta, Pa., Donegal), and sophomore
Meghan Bradley (Warrington, PA., Central Bucks South) all went 1-3.
Potter pitched six innings and struck out two batters.
Up Next: Wilson will face the Red Devils of Dickinson College (24-16, 12-4 Centennial) in the next round of the 2019 NCAA Division III Regional Championship tomorrow (May 11) at 12:00 p.m.
