MORRISTOWN, N.J.- The Wilson College softball team traveled to the College of St. Elizabeth, earlier this afternoon, for a nonconference doubleheader. The Phoenix (16-6-2, 6-0 CSAC) split the series with the Eagles (22-8, 9-1 NEAC) with the first game going to Wilson, 8-1, and the second game going to St. Elizabeth, 9-0.
Game 1: Junior
Megan Potter (Hagerstown, Md., South Hagerstown) started on the mound for the Phoenix in the first game, she was able to get out of the first inning with the scoreboard still scoreless. The Eagles were able to find some offense early in this game, they scored one run off one hit and two errors in the bottom of the second inning that brought the score in their favor, 1-0.
Wilson responded in the top of the third inning though. After freshman
Jessica Kosheba (Marietta, Pa., Donegal) and sophomore
Katey Roth (Lebanon, PA., Lebanon) reached base, junior
Alison Shockey (Greencastle, Pa., Greencastle-Antrim) drove them both in on a double to left field as the Phoenix were able to take the lead, 2-1. Later on in the inning, sophomore
Meghan Bradley (Warrington, PA., Central Bucks South) was able to drive in
Shockey on a single to center field that pushed the score to 3-1.
Wilson was able to add more runs in the top of the fourth inning, sophomore
Amber Rexrode (Annville, PA., Annville Cleona) got things started with an RBI single to right field that brought the score to 4-1. A few batters later, freshman
Taylor Durant (Woodinville, Wash., Monroe) was able to knock in two runs on a RBI single to center that furthered the Phoenix lead to 6-1.
Moving on to the top of the seventh, Wilson was able to tack on more runs. Junior
Jennifer Cail (Lisle, IL, Lisle) got things started with a single to left,
Bradley followed with a single to left.
Gabriella Newman (Hanover, Pa., South Western) stepped up next for the Phoenix as a pinch hitter and was able to deliver as she was able to knock in
Cail on a single to the shortstop. The next batter,
Kosheba, reached on a fielder's choice that scored another run for Wilson. The Phoenix would take game one by a final score of 8-1.
Inside the Box Score: Potter earned her tenth win of the season as she went on to pitch a complete game while racking up 12 strikeouts.
Roth went 3-3,
Bradley finished going 3-4 with one RBI, while
Shockey and
Rexrode both went 2-5. Wilson finished game one scoring eight runs on 16 hits and two errors while the Eagles were able to score one run on four hits and no errors.
Game 2: After a scoreless top of the first, St. Elizabeth jumped out to an early two-run lead in the bottom half of the inning. Later on, in the bottom of the second, the Eagles managed to score four runs on four hits and one error; this furthered the score in their favor, 6-0. St. Elisabeth would go on to win game two by a final score of 9-0.
Inside the Box Score: Kosheba,
Cail,
Bradley, and
Durant all went 1-2 in the game. The Phoenix scored zero runs on four hits and two errors while their opponent went on to score nine runs on nine hits and one error.
Up Next: The Wilson College softball team will be back in action this Thursday, April 18, where the Phoenix will travel to Baltimore Maryland where they will take on Notre Dame of Maryland University in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) doubleheader, starting at 3:00 p.m.
