Softball Storms Through Cyclones

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - The Wilson College softball team opened up Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play today as they traveled to take on the Cyclones of Centenary University in a doubleheader earlier this afternoon. The Phoenix (5-3-2, 2-0 CSAC) swept the Cyclones (7-15, 2-2 CSAC) by scores of 4-0 and 7-0.

Game 1: Junior Megan Potter (Hagerstown, Md., South Hagerstown) got the start for Wilson this afternoon, as she was able to keep the Centenary offense at bay throughout the game. The two teams battled with neither one being able to take the lead until the fifth inning. That's when freshman Taylor Durant (Woodinville, Wash., Monroe) stepped up to the plate and blasted a two-run RBI into right-center field. Later on, in the top of the sixth, Wilson was able to add some insurance as sophomore Meghan Bradley (Warrington, PA., Central Bucks South) was able to score off a wild pitch, making the score 3-0. A few batters later, Durant was able to drive in a run as she hit a single to the right side of the field that brought in sophomore Emma Carbaugh (Chambersburg, Pa., Chambersburg), bringing the score to 4-0 for Wilson. The Phoenix would go on to win the game by a final score of 4-0.

The Blue and White would finish the game with four runs off of eight hits and 12 walks while their holding their opponent to zero runs on four hits and one walk.

Game 2: In the second game, sophomore Daphne Buzard (Kane, PA., Cocalico) got the starting nod for Wilson as she went on to retire the first three batters in the bottom half of the first inning. In the top of the second, junior Jennifer Cail (Lisle, IL, Lisle) was able to reach base on an error at helped score a run, as the Phoenix were able to take an early 1-0 lead. Later on, in the top of the third, freshman Chloe Perrin (Milton, Pa., Milton) was able to hit an RBI double followed by junior Alison Shockey (Greencastle, Pa., Greencastle-Antrim) who was able to knock in an RBI, helping Wilson extend their lead to 3-0.
