Wolves Take Match Over Phoenix

KEUKA PARK, NY- The Wilson College men's volleyball team hit the road to take on the Wolves of Keuka College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) match. The Phoenix (4-8, 1-3 NEAC) were defeated by the Wolves (10-8, 2-3 NEAC) three sets to none with scores of 25-19, 25-21 and 25-16. 

How It Happened: In the first set, the two opponents traded points and knotted things up at three a piece. Keuka then started on a 6-1 run that brought the score to 9-4. Later in the set, Senior Evan Hoke (Chambersburg, Pa., Commonwealth Connections Academy) was able to get a kill that was assisted by senior Aaron Hoke (Chambersburg, Pa., Commonwealth Connections Academy) taking the score to 14-10 in favor of the Wolves. Keuka would go on to take the first set, 25-19.

In the second set with the score 7-3, The Phoenix started to gain some momentum and battled back to even things up at 9-9. Kills came from junior Oliver Perry (London, England, Okanagan Secondary) and Aaron Hoke. Both teams would continue to find points and tie things up again at 17 each. The Wolves would then start on a 4 point run, tipping the score in their favor, 21-17. Despite a great comeback attempt by the Phoenix, Keuka would take the second set, 25-21. 

The final set started with the Wolves on a 4-0 run. The Phoenix struggled to get their offense started as Keuka continued to further their lead to 12-3. The Blue and White could not pull out the final set and lost the third set 25-16.

Inside the Box Score: The Phoenix finished 27 kills against 26 errors on 91 attempts while their opponents finished with 35 kills against 13 errors on 79 attempts. Aaron Hoke lead Wilson with 10 kills while his brother  Evan Hoke tallied up 8 kills. Junior Ian Firestone (York, Pa., York Suburban) led the Phoenix with 18 assists. 

Up Next: Wilson will be in action tomorrow where they will travel to Arora, New York and square off against Wells College at 11:00 a.m. and Penn State Behrend at 1:00 p.m.
