CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.- The Wilson men's volleyball team played host to the 12th-ranked Lancaster Bible College Chargers tonight in their 2019 home opener. The match was also the first NEAC contest of the season for both teams. The Chargers were able to defeat the Phoenix in three sets by scores of 25-16, 25-17 and 25-14. With the win the Chargers improve to 8-2 overall and 1-0 in NEAC play. Wilson falls to 1-1 on the season and 0-1 in NEAC play.
How It Happened: The Chargers controlled the match from the beginning, taking the first set 25-16. The Phoenix had 8 kills on 25 attacks in the set, 4 of which came from senior
Aaron Hoke (Chambersburg, Pa., Commonwealth Connections Academy). In the second set, the Chargers continued their solid play taking a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-17 victory. The Phoenix managed just 5 kills in the second set on 24 attempts. The Chargers came out victorious in the third and final set defeating the Phoenix 25-14 and ultimately winning the contest 3-0. Wilson finished the final set with 6 kills on 16 attempts.
Inside the Box Score: The Phoenix finished with the night with 19 kills on 65 attempts.
Aaron Hoke led the team with 7 kills while also tallying 5 digs.
Zachary McMaster (Gettysburg, Pa., New Oxford) finished with 4 kills and 5 digs as well.
Evan Hoke (Chambersburg, Pa., Commonwealth Connections Academy) notched 6 digs in the contest to contribute to the 23 total digs for the Phoenix.
Up Next: The Phoenix will host a tri-match this weekend with Arcadia University (10-4, 1-0 MAC) and Pratt Institute (1-0, 0-0). The first match against Arcadia will start at 11:00 a.m. The Phoenix will have a short break before taking on Pratt Institute at 3:00 p.m.
