Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Phoenix Cruise Past Lions

BRYN ATHYN, Pa.- The Phoenix men's basketball team had five players score in double figures tonight against CSAC opponent Bryn Athyn, in a game where the Phoenix came out victorious, 97-77. With the win, Wilson improves to 12-11 on the season and are 8-3 in CSAC play. Bryn Athyn falls to 6-17 overall and 3-7 in the CSAC.

How It Happened: The first half was a close back-and-forth battle between the two conference opponents as neither team was able to gain much of an advantage through the first 15 minutes of play. With around five minutes left in the half, Bryn Athyn led 28-26 and went on to hit 3 consecutive three-pointers to extend their lead to 9. With a minute remaining the Lions held a 13-point lead over the Phoenix, but after 4 straight points at the foul line and a layup by Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Texas, Forest Park) to end the half, the Phoenix only trailed by 7.

Wilson came out of the locker room looking to bounce back in the second half of play, and they would do so. After the Lions scored to take a nine point lead, the Phoenix scored seven straight points to get within two. With 15 minutes to play and the score tied at 59, the Phoenix began a huge 9-0 scoring run to go up 68-59. Wilson was later able to extend their lead to 13 after a Rashaan Bean jumper and an Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa., Palmyra) three-pointer. Later in the half the Phoenix still held a 13-point lead that quickly turned into a 20-point lead after 7 unanswered points. The early second half 9-0 scoring run proved to be a turning point in the game as the Lions were never able to recover and the Phoenix came out on top, 97-77. Wilson had a huge second half of play, outscoring the Lions 55-28.

Inside the Box Score: Wilson shot 42% from the field and 44% from three, including 8 second half three-pointers. Zachary Powell (Manassas, Va., Osbourn) finished the game with 21 points and 12 rebounds while Rashaan Bean also had 21 points. Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley) finished with a double-double putting up 17 points and pulling down a remarkable 16 rebounds.
