Ravens Bounce Phoenix from Post-Season

ROSEMONT, Pa. - The Wilson College women's basketball team was on the road for a Colonial States Athletic Conference semi-final match-up with top seeded Rosemont College. The Ravens (23-3, 16-0) defeated the Phoenix (16-11, 9-7) by a final score of 70-41.

How It Happened: A tough Ravens defense smothered the Phoenix offense in the first half. After jumping out to an early 5-3 lead off of a couple of buckets by freshman Tori Cole (Middleburg, FL, Orange Park), the Ravens closed out the first quarter on a 12-0 run for a 15-5 advantage. With All-CSAC performer and senior Lindsey Purvis (Fort Myers, Fl, South Fort Myers) on the bench in foul trouble in the second quarter, the Ravens were able to extend their lead to 31-13 at the half. Trailing by 26 points in the third quarter, the Phoenix began to chip away at the lead. A three-pointer by sophomore Michaela Singer (Annville, Pa., Annville-Cleona) and another jumper by Cole cut the lead to 39-18. Later, a layup by Purvis and an old fashioned three-point play by senior All-CSAC performer Kai Wyatt (Baltimore, MD) pulled the Phoenix to within 16 points at 46-30 with less than two minutes to go in the quarter. A Ravens three-pointer pushed the hosts lead back to 19 points as the teams headed to the final quarter. The Phoenix couldn't draw any closer in the final period as the Ravens defense created turnovers that led to fast break opportunities and a final score of 70-41.

Inside the Box Score: For the game, the Phoenix shot just 30% from the field and 15% from behind the arc while the Ravens hit on 40% of their shots. Cole led the Phoenix with a double-double of 12 points and 15 rebounds. Singer added 11 points and senior Amber Watkins (Honesdale, Pa, Honesdale) tallied 11 rebounds.

Up Next: Unless the Phoenix are selected for a spot in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) tournament, which will be announced Monday, this will bring to close the best season for the program since the 2000-01 season.
