MORRISTOWN, N.J. - The Wilson College men's basketball team hit the road where they took on the Eagles of the College of Saint Elizabeth in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CASC) play. The Phoenix (2-8, 0-2 CSAC) were defeated by the Eagles (5-2, 1-0 CASC) by a score of 84-70.
How It Happened: Wilson opened the game up on a 7-2 run with a three coming from junior
Christian Evans (Baltimore, MD, Our Lady Of Mount Carmel) and layups coming from sophomore
Adrian Thomas (Germantown, MD, Northwest HS) and junior
Zachary Powell (Manassas, VA, Osbourn). Later on, the Phoenix extended their lead to eight points thanks to back-to-back three-pointers coming from
Evans and a layup and three coming from senior
Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Tx, Forest Park); bringing the score to 30-22 with just over ten minutes left in the half. Saint Elizabeth was able to take the lead going into halftime as Wilson would go into the second half trailing by a score of 41-37.
The Eagles continued to score going into the final half of the game as the Phoenix struggled to find an offensive rhythm. Later in the half, Wilson was able to score some threes, this time coming from
Powell and sophomore
Jeremiah Delaney (Manassas, VA, Osbourn), that cut the lead to just seven points with just under seven minutes remaining. This would spark another Saint Elizabeth run as Wilson would go on to be defeated by a final score of 84-70.
Inside the Box Score: The Phoenix finished shooting 42% from the floor while their opponents finished shooting 53%.
Thomas,
Bean, and
Evans each finished with 15 points.
Delaney finished with 10 points and
Powell added eight. The Eagles were able to capitalize on turnovers as they would lead the points off turnover battle, 34-16.
