Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Cyclones Blow Past Phoenix

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Playing their second Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) game in as many days, the Wilson College women's basketball team fell to Centenary University by a final score of 71-43.

How It Happened: The Cyclones (4-2, 1-0 CSAC) jumped out to an early 4-0 lead but a jumper by sophomore Tori Cole (Orange Park, FL, Orange Park) got the Phoenix (1-5, 0-2 CSAC) on the board a few minutes later. A bucket in the paint midway through the opening quarter by junior Michaela Singer (Annville, PA, Annville-Cleona) gave the Phoenix their first lead of the game at 8-6. After a three-pointer by the Cyclones gave them visitors a 9-8 advantage, a 7-0 run by the Phoenix, highlighted by back-to-back scores from freshman Samira Murphy (Virginia Beach, VA, Great Bridge Christian) and sophomore Tioleaoauli Posiulai (Waipahu, HI, University Laboratory School), put the hosts up 15-9. A 7-0 run by the Cyclones to close out the first quarter put them ahead 16-15. A cold shooting Phoenix offense couldn't generate many points in the second quarter as the team shot 3 of 15 from the field, but solid defense kept them in the game as the Cyclones also had their coldest shooting quarter by going 5 of 12 from the field. However, during the quarter the Cyclones increased their lead and led the Phoenix by a score of 31-24 at halftime. The cold shooting continued for the Phoenix in the third quarter as the visitors started the second half on a 19-0 run to push their lead to 26 points. A bucket by Posiulai provided the only points of the quarter for the Phoenix who trailed 54-26 heading to the final quarter. While the Phoenix continued to trail in the fourth quarter, there were some bright spots on the floor as freshman Jordan Yeager (Waynesboro, PA, Greencastle-Antrim) connected on her first collegiate three-pointer and classmate Madison Schaeffer (Yeagertown, PA, Mifflin County) scored a career high 8 points in the final period.

Inside the Box Score: For the game the Phoenix shot 30% from the field including 35% from the free throw line while the Cyclones shot 51% including 37.5% from behind the arc. Singer led the Phoenix with 9 points and 4 steals while Murphy added 8 points and 3 steals. Cole added a team high 8 boards. The Phoenix were out rebounded 51-25 including 11-5 on the offensive glass which translated to a 14-0 edge in second chance points by the Cyclones.
