Phoenix Dominate Cyclones

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.- The Wilson College field hockey team took on the visiting Cyclones of Centenary University this afternoon in the final contest of the regular season. Wilson (8-8, 4-2 CSAC) defeated the Cyclones (6-9, 3-3 CSAC) in commanding 7-0 fashion.

How It Happened: Just over a minute into the game, Michaela Singer (Annville, Pa, Annville-Cleona) took a shot that was kicked aside by the Cyclones goalie. Singer collected the ball off the rebound and shot it past the goalie to put the Phoenix ahead early. The Phoenix had several scoring chances in the period with four shots on goal, including one shot by Alexis Pflumm (Camden, Del. , Caesar Rodney) that was stopped just short of the goal-line by a Centenary defender.

The second period started with another early goal from the Phoenix. Michaela Singer sent a dribbling pass toward the net that was poked into the back of the cage by Abigail Rosenberry (Shippensburg, Pa., Shippensburg). The Phoenix put another tally on the scoreboard two minutes later as Morgan Burkepile (Millerstown, Pa., Greenwood) took a pass from Alexis Pflumm and beat the goalie to the right side, giving Wilson a 3-0 lead. The Phoenix registered 16 first-half shots and finished with 12 penalty corners.

After five straight penalty corners to start the third period of play, Breeann Sheaffer (Middleburg, Pa., Midd-West) put a short pass right on the stick of Michaela Singer, who sent one past the goalie, giving the Phoenix a commanding 4-0 lead. Two minutes later, Alexis Pflumm blasted a shot toward the net that touched the stick of Michaela Singer and went into the cage to give Singer her third goal of the game and third hat trick of the season.

Early in the fourth quarter, the Breeann Sheaffer scored to give Wilson a 6-0 lead and later, Alexis Pflumm added another to cap off a dominating performance for the Phoenix.

Inside the Box Score: Wilson outshot the Cyclones 41-0 while registering 36 shots on goal. The Phoenix were also awarded 30 penalty corners in the game. Michaela Singer led the Phoenix with 3 goals and 1 assist. Alexis Pflumm led the team in shots with 14 while scoring a goal and two assists.
