Men's Basketball Victorious Over Southern Virginia

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College men's basketball team was in action this afternoon as they took on the Knights of Southern Virginia University in their second game of the Gettysburg Tip-Off Tournament. The Phoenix (1-3, 0-0 CSAC) defeated the Knights (0-5, 0-0 CAC) by a score of 77-64.

How It Happened: Both teams turned up the defense early as they would go scoreless until just under the seventeenth-minute mark of the first half. The Phoenix would work the ball in the paint throughout the half as junior Zachary Powell (Manassas, VA, Osbourn) tallied up a pair of baskets down low. Southern Virginia cut the lead to just two with about nine minutes left in the half as neither team was able to gather a solid lead. The Phoenix would enter halftime up by one thanks to a pair of three throws coming from junior Christian Evans (Baltimore, MD, Our Lady Of Mount Carmel), 19-18.

In the second half, both teams battled back and forth with Wilson pulling ahead by six until the Knights came back and cut the lead back to just three with fourteen minutes left. Shortly after, the Phoenix pulled back out in front thanks to a pair of three's coming from sophomore Adrian Thomas (Germantown, MD, Northwest HS) and Powell that put them ahead by nine. More threes would come later as senior Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Tx, Forest Park) was able to knock one down that put The Phoenix up by 15. Wilson got the offense going in this half as they would never look back and go on the win by a final score of 77-64.
