Knights Slay Phoenix


GETTYSBURG, Pa.- The Wilson men's basketball team took on the Knights of SUNY Geneseo tonight in their opening game of the Gettysburg College Tip-Off Classic. Wilson fell to the Knights by a score of 92-56 to fall to 0-3 to start the season. 

How It Happened: After early back and forth play, the Knights were able to take an 18-13 lead over the Phoenix midway through the first half. Wilson quickly put an end to their small deficit by going on an 11-3 run, taking a 24-21 lead with under 10 minutes to go in the half. Geneseo came back to tie the game and after a three-minute dry spell for both teams, the Knights regained a 26-24 advantage. Geneseo went on to end the half on a 9-5 scoring spurt to take a 35-29 lead into the locker room. The Phoenix shot 36% from the field in the first half but struggled from beyond the arc, shooting just 20%. 

Geneseo started the second half with two quick buckets to take a double-digit lead over the Phoenix and would stretch that lead to 17 at the 15-minute mark. The Knights took their early momentum and used it to fuel a 12-0 scoring run to push the score to 62-35 with 10 minutes left to play. The deficit proved to be insurmountable for the Phoenix as the Knights continued to roll their way to the 92-56 victory. Wilson shot just 28% from the field in the second half and 14% from three.  

Inside the Box Score: For the game, the Phoenix shot 32% from the field and 17% from three-point land. They allowed 54 points in the paint and 17 fastbreak points to the Knights. Olamide Banjo (Largo, Md., Largo HS) Banjo led the team with 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Texas, Forest Park) finished with 9 points while Jeremiah Delaney (Manassas, Va., Osbourn) had 7. 

Up Next: The Phoenix will look to rebound tomorrow in the consolation game against Southern Virginia at 2:00 p.m.
