Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Phoenix Fall Short Against Gophers

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.- Despite a late push in the second half, the Wilson Phoenix men's soccer team came up short against the visiting Gophers of Goucher College in a close 3-2 match. With the loss the Phoenix fall to 3-9 on the season.

How It Happened: Nine minutes into play, the Gophers put their first goal of the game on the board to take an early 1-0 lead.

Wilson had a few offensive opportunities with shots from Aaron Harrison (Archbald, Pa., Valley View) and Joe Pacheco but neither could find the back of the net to tie things up.

In the twenty-fifth minute, Goucher would extend their lead when Pach Odalla found Isiah Perry for a wide-open shot that gave the Gophers the 2-0 advantage, which they would carry into halftime. Shots were 6-4 in the first half in favor of the Phoenix, who also took three corner kicks in the period.

The Gophers kicked off the second half with another quick goal coming off the foot of Isiah Perry, as the Gophers took a commanding 3-0 lead. Later on, in the seventy-seventh minute, the Phoenix got a little life from Aaron Harrison who sent a shot from about 40 yards out that went just over the outstretched arms of the Goucher keeper and into the top of the goal to put Wilson on the board late.

Less than 10 minutes later the Phoenix struck again as Joe Pacheco (Jonesboro, Ark., The Academies at Jonesboro) snuck a shot into the left side of the net to bring Wilson within one with 5 minutes to play. The late rally came just a little too late, however, as Goucher held off any further comeback and went on to win 3-2.

Inside the Box Score: Total shots were 16-9 in favor of the Gophers who also won the shots on goal battle, 8-7. Aaron Harrison and Joe Pacheco led the Phoenix with 3 shots apiece, each scoring a goal as well. For Harrison, his goal gives him a team-leading 3 on the season. Senior keeper Dan Perry (London, England, Okanagan Secondary) ended the match with 5 saves.

Up Next: Wilson will travel to Keystone College (6-4-1, 1-1 CSAC) this Saturday for a CSAC match against the Giants beginning at 4:00 p.m.
