Field Hockey Folds to Falcons

Allentown, Pa. - The Wilson College field hockey team traveled to face the Falcons of Cedar Crest College in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) match. The Phoenix (7-8, 3-2 CSAC) were defeated by the Falcons (7-9, 3-2 CSAC) by a final score of 2-0.

How It Happened: In the first quarter, Wilson fended off three Cedar Crest penalty corners and five shots before receiving four penalty corners of their own. Sophomore Breeann Sheaffer (Middleburg, PA., Midd-West) took the corners as the Phoenix fired off three shots taken, one taken by junior Jenna Carty (Chambersburg, PA., Greencastle-Antrim), and two by freshman Alexis Pflumm (Camden, Del. , Caesar Rodney). Both teams would enter the half still tied at 0-0.

In the second, Wilson found two corners early on but only came away with one shot. For the rest of the half, both teams battled for possession as the Phoenix defended two Falcon corners and a shot. 

In the third quarter, Cedar Crest was able to score in the first minute of the quarter, bringing the score to 1-0. Wilson responded less than a minute later with a shot of their own, but could not beat the keeper. Both teams traded possession for the rest of the quarter as the Phoenix entered the final period trailing, 1-0.

In the final quarter of play, Wilson started things off with a corner but came up empty-handed. A few minutes later, the Falcons were able to score, this time off a penalty corner, and tip the score to 2-0. The Phoenix were able to get a shot on goal and a corner, but could not overcome the deficit as Cedar Crest would go on to win, 2-0.

Inside the Box Score: Wilson was outshot 12-7 as both teams would shoot five shots on goal. Pflumm led the team with three shots as four others finished with one shot apiece. Junior goalkeeper Krista Nayadley (Hampton, VA, Hampton) went on to finish with three saves. 

Up Next: The Phoenix will wrap-up their regular season as they get ready to host CSAC match against the Cyclones of Centenary University (6-8, 3-2 CSAC) on Saturday, November 2, starting at 1:00 p.m.
