Phoenix Soar Over Eagles

MORRISTOWN, N.J. - The Wilson College women's volleyball team traveled to take on the Eagles of the College of Saint Elizabeth this afternoon in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) match. The Phoenix (13-10, 6-3 CSAC) defeated the Eagles (8-10, 3-5 CSAC) by a final score of three sets to two. 

How It Happened: After Saint Elizabeth was able to jump out to a 4-0 lead, the Phoenix started to come alive and were able to knot things up at four apiece. The Eagles controlled most of the first set as they were able to extend their lead to 18-12. They would take the first set by a score of 25-22.

In the second set, Wilson was able to jump out to an early lead but Saint Elizabeth was able to tie the game at 10-10. Both teams battled to gain control but neither one was able to as they traded points throughout the set. Later in the set, after a well called Phoenix timeout, Wilson was able to even things up at 25 all and would go on to take the second set by a score of 28-26. 

In the third, after the Phoenix were able to jump out to a 4-2 lead, the Eagles started a 12-3 run and were able to flip the score to 14-7. Wilson would not deter as they were able to chip away and eventually take the lead at 18-17. The Phoenix would take this set by a score of 25-20 and jump ahead, two sets to one. 

Moving ahead to the fourth set, Saint Elizabeth took an early 9-3 lead. Wilson would hang around but they could not overthrow the Eagles as they were able to win this set by a score of 25-17. Knotting the match at two sets apiece. 

In the fifth and final set, Saint Elizabeth took a 7-2 lead early on. The Phoenix gained their composure and started a huge come back as they were able to tie the match at 13 after an 11-5 run. Wilson would take the final two points of the match, giving them a 15-13 victory in the set as the Phoenix would rise to victory, three sets to two. 

Inside the Box Score: Wilson finished with 42 kills on 151 attempts agonist 23 errors for a hitting percentage of .126 while their opponents finished with 51 kills on 157 attempts against 27 errors for a hitting percentage of .153. Sophomore Tioleaoauli Posiulai (Waipahu, HI, University Laboratory School) led the team with 17 kills while freshman Anika Eigen-Zucchi (Washington, D.C., St. Johns College High School) had 14 and sophomore Madison Coy (Indiana, PA., Penns Manor) finished with seven. The Phoenix would finish with 13 aces in the match as Eigen-Zucchi led the charge with four while junior Sierra Hill (Hagerstown, Md., South Hagerstown) and freshman Jenna Mongold (Mercersburg, PA., James Buchanan) each finished with three. 

Up Next: This concludes the regular season for the women's volleyball team. With this win, Wilson has clinched a CSAC playoff bid. The CSAC playoffs are set the begin Tuesday, November 5.
