Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Phoenix Roar Over Lions

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College men's soccer field hosted a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) match against the Lions of Bryn Athyn this afternoon. The Phoenix (4-12, 2-3 CSAC) defeated the Lions (1-15, 1-6 CSAC) by a final score of 1-0.

How It Happened: Wilson kicked things off with a shot by sophomore Victor Celleri that was saved by Bryn Athyn's goalkeeper. Sophomore Brandt Mellott (Chambersburg, PA., Chambersburg) was then able to fire off a fluffy of shots before freshman Garrick Hill (Chambersburg, PA., Chambersburg) fired off one as the Phoenix offense continued to look for scoring chances. The two opponents traded possessions throughout the first half but Wilson was able to outshoot the Lions 6-4 with Mellott leading the charge with three shots. Both teams would enter halftime tied at 0-0.

In the second half, the Phoenix were able to pull ahead as freshman Juan Lamy (Clarksburg, MD., Living Grace Christian School) gathered the ball and launched it past the Lions keeper. This gave Wilson the 1-0 advantage with just over 30 minutes remaining. The scoring opportunities wouldn't stop there as the Phoenix were able to get five more shots before the half was over; all while holding their opponent to just one. Wilson would go on to win 1-0 after ninety minutes of play.

Inside the Box Score: The Phoenix outshot Bryn Athyn 15-7 and 9-5 with shots on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Hetzer (Chambersburg, PA., Cumberland Valley Christian) earned the clean slate victory as he went on to finish with five saves. Mellott and freshman Christopher Sosa (Mechanicsburg, PA., Mechanicsburg) each finished with three shots while Celleri and freshman Joe Pacheco (Jonesboro, ARK., The Academies at Jonesboro) each finished with two. Lamy tallied up his third goal of the season.

Up Next: The men's soccer team will close out their home schedule this Saturday, October 26, where they will square off against the Defenders of Clarks Summit University (3-10-1, 1-3-0 CSAC) in a CSAC matchup starting at 3:00 p.m.
