CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College men's soccer team hosted their homecoming match the Cyclones of Centenary University this afternoon in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) contest. The Phoenix (3-12, 1-3 CSAC) were defeated by the Cyclones (5-10, 4-0 CSAC) by a score of 7-5 in a back and forth battle.
How It Happened: Centenary kicked the match off as they were able to score a goal in the third minute of play. They would score two more goals before Wilson responded with a goal from freshman
Joe Pacheco (Jonesboro, ARK., The Academies at Jonesboro), bringing the score to 3-1 in the Cyclones favor. Centenary scored one more before the half as the Phoenix would enter halftime trailing, 4-1.
In the second half, Wilson started to come alive as they were able to close the gap to just one goal. Freshman
Foster Kosa (Ulysses, PA., Northern Potter) got the scoring started as he to beat the keeper off an assist from freshman
Juan Lamy (Clarksburg, MD., Living Grace Christian School), cutting the score to 4-2. Three minutes later, senior
Dan Perry (London, England, Okanagan Secondary) would cut the deficit to one goal as he was able to score off a penalty kick, bringing the score to 4-3. Shortly after, the Cyclones responded with two goals in five minutes, pushing the score to 6-3.
Wilson would not be denied as
Perry scored another penalty kick goal that brought the score to 6-4. Later on in the half, after Centenary was able to score another goal, freshman
Garrick Hill (Chambersburg, PA., Chambersburg) slipped one by the keeper on a penalty kick. Despite a hard-fought effort, the Phoenix would lose by a final score of 7-5.
Inside the Box Score: Wilson was outshot in the match 20-12 and 16-9 with shots on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper
Andrew Hetzer (Chambersburg, PA., Cumberland Valley Christian) went on to finish with nine save, as
Perry would lead the team with four shots and two goals. Nine different Phoenix players finished with at least one shot while
Pacheco,
Kosa, and
Hill each finished with goals.
