Phoenix Soar Over Ravens

ROSEMONT, Pa.- The Wilson women's volleyball team took on the Ravens of Rosemont College this evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference play. Wilson (12-8, 5-1 CSAC) defeated the Ravens (4-19, 1-4 CSAC) in straight sets to pick up their fifth CSAC win of the season.

How It Happened: With Wilson leading 5-2 early in the first set, the Ravens went on the attack, fighting back to take a 6-5 lead over the Phoenix.

Later in the set, with Rosemont ahead 21-19, the Phoenix got a huge scoring spurt to take a late 23-21 lead. Two of the points came from Rosemont errors while the other two came off of a kill by Tioleaoauli Posiulai (Waipahu, Hawaii University Laboratory School) and a service ace from Elizabeth Vuxta (Elizabethtown, Pa., Elizabethtown). The Ravens answered by tying the game at 23, but Wilson ended the set with two straight points to win 25-23.

After a close first set, the Phoenix got off to a hot start in the second set, holding an early 11-1 lead before extending their advantage to 20-2. Wilson would go on to win the second set in dominating fashion, 25-10. The Phoenix had just seven kills but struck for eight service aces in the set which were split between Elizabeth Vuxta and Lizzy Farnes (Coconut Creek, Fla., Coral Springs)

Both teams traded points to start the third set as the Phoenix held a slight 9-8 edge over the Ravens early on. After going ahead 13-9, Wilson scored 9 consecutive points to take a commanding 20-9 lead. The Ravens went on to score three straight points but the Phoenix would close out the set on top 25-13 to win the match in three sets.
