Women's Volleyball Blows Past Cyclones

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - The Wilson College women's volleyball team was in action today, for the second day in a row, as they traveled to take on the Cyclones of Centenary University in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC)  play. The Phoenix (11-8, 4-1 CSAC) defeated the Cyclones (0-12, 0-5 CSAC) three sets to none with scores of 25-10, 25-13, and 25-6.

How It Happened: In the first set, Wilson jumped out to a 10-2 lead before Centenary called a timeout. The Phoenix continued pushing to score until they reached 19-7, that's when the Cyclones called their second timeout of the set. Wilson closed out this set by a final score of 25-10. The Phoenix would tally up 8 service aces in this set with four of them coming from freshman Jenna Mongold (Mercersburg, PA., James Buchanan)

In the second set, the Phoenix continued to dominate the court; this time they jumped out to an early 10-1 lead. Centenary would start to chip away at the lead and was able to pull within four points, but Wilson would close the set out on an 11-3 run and take the set by a score of 25-13. Giving them a two sets to nil lead in the match.

Moving ahead to the final set, the Phoenix continued to control the game. After jumping out to a 6-1 lead, the Cyclones were forced to call a timeout. This did not cool the Wilson attack as they continued to score and eventually pushed the score to 17-4 before Centenary would call their final timeout of the set. The Phoenix would wrap up the third set by a score of 25-6, giving them the three sets to none victory. Sophomore Tioleaoauli Posiulai (Waipahu, HI, University Laboratory School) added four kills in this set and junior Lizzy Farnes (Coconut Creek, Fla., Coral Springs)  racked up three.

Inside the Box Score: Wilson finished with 24 kills on 62 attempts against 8 errors for a hitting percentage of .258 while holding their opponent to 10 kills on 61 attempts against 19 errors for a hitting percentage of -.148. Posiulai led both teams with 10 kills while Farnes and freshman Anika Eigen-Zucchi (Washington, D.C., St. Johns College High School) each finished with five. Mongold supplied 23 assists on the match while freshman Elizabeth Vuxta (Elizabethtown, PA., Elizabethtown) added eight digs. Junior Sierra Hill (Hagerstown, Md., South Hagerstown) and sophomore Madison Coy (Indiana, PA., Penns Manor) each accounted for four digs as well.
