Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Hoops Survives Cyclones

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.- The Wilson College men's basketball team returned to action this afternoon in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) game against the Cyclones of Centenary University. The Phoenix (5-9, 2-1 CSAC) held off a ferocious comeback by the Cyclones (4-10, 0-2 CSAC) and won the game, 76-68.

How It Happened: Both teams opened up the game trading points in the first five minutes of play. With the score tied at 10, the Phoenix began to extend their lead by going on a 12-0 run. Senior Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley) nailed two three-pointers during the stretch, while junior Jake Young (Friendship, Md.) connected on another. Wilson continued to control the momentum as they led by 13 with just under 5 minutes in the half. The Cyclones would cut their deficit to single digits but the Phoenix exploded at the end of the half with a 15-4 run. The run was fueled by Keion Adams and freshman Christian White (Woodbridge, Va., Gar-Field SHS). Adams had seven points during the run while White added six to give Wilson a 46-26 lead at halftime.

The Phoenix started the second half off by taking their largest lead of the game. With the score sitting at 55-30 with 18 minutes to play, the Cyclones called a timeout to regain their composure. The timeout proved to be beneficial for the Cyclones as they began to fight their way back into the ballgame. By the 12 minute mark in the contest, Centenary had cut the Phoenix lead to 15 points. Centenary continued to battle on every possession and with four minutes left they found themselves down by seven. Keion Adams knocked down a free throw that was followed by a huge three from senior Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa., Palmyra) and the Phoenix were back up by 11 with 2 minutes remaining. The Cyclones tried to make a late comeback again however time was not in their favor and the Phoenix held on to win 76-68, despite being outscored in the second half 42-30.

Inside the Box Score: Wilson shot 40% from the field for the game and hit 10 three-pointers to shoot 30% from three. Keion Adams led all scorers with 27 points, 22 of which came in the first half. Adams also had 13 rebounds in the game. Adrian Thomas (Germantown, Md., Northwest HS) also had 10 points and 7 rebounds while Ian Frazier added 8 points.

Up Next: The  Phoenix are return to action next Thursday when they travel to Keystone College for another CSAC battle. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
