Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Big Second Half Leads to Phoenix Victory

LA PLUME, Pa.- The Phoenix men's basketball team took on the Giants of Keystone College this evening in a CSAC contest. Despite a poor first half of shooting, Wilson (6-9, 3-1 CSAC) was able to overcome their shooting woes with a strong second half of play and defeat Keystone (0-15, 0-3 CSAC) 79-69.

How It Happened: Keystone shot lights out in the first half, shooting 48% from the field and 43% from three. The Giants used their strong shooting performance to jump out to an early 19-9 lead. The Phoenix, on the other hand, struggled to knock down shots and found themselves trailing 33-18 with just under 10 minutes to play in the period.

Although the Phoenix only shot 28% from the field in the half, they were able to go into the locker with a ton of momentum by finishing the first half on a 13-3 run. Wilson received solid contributions from a number of guys during the scoring run. Senior Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa., Palmyra) and junior Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Texas., Forest Park) combined for 8 of the 13 points to bring the score to 36-31 at halftime.

The Phoenix took the momentum they carried into the locker room and used it to produce a huge second half. Trailing 45-41 with 15 minutes remaining, Wilson used a quick 6-0 scoring spurt to take their first lead of the game. Both Ian Frazier and Rashaan Bean hit three-pointers to help the Phoenix grab the lead.

Later in the period, Wilson was able to take a 4-point lead that was quickly diminished as the Giants scored 6 unanswered points and took a 62-60 lead. The Phoenix regained the lead a moment later and pushed the score to 67-62 following back-to-back layups from Adrian Thomas (Germantown, Md., Northwest HS) and Rashaan Bean. With only two minutes left in the game, Wilson used strong defense and free throw shooting to hold on for a 79-69 win.

Inside the Box Score: Despite shooting just 28% in the first half, the Phoenix bounced back and shot 45% in the second and finished the game at 35%. Wilson hit 12 three-pointers, shooting 31%. Foul shots proved to be a major factor as the Phoenix hit on 21-29 from the line while Keystone on shot 5-8. Rashaan Bean led all scorers with 24 points while grabbing 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley) had a solid night as well with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Zachary Powell (Manassas, Va., Osbourn) and Ian Frazier finished the night in double figures too. Powell had 15 points and 8 rebounds and Frazier had 10 points.

Up Next: The Phoenix head to Clarks Summit this Saturday and will look to improve to 4-1 in CSAC play against the Defenders. Start time is set for 3:00 p.m.
