Phoenix Fall to Cyclones on the Road

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J.- The Phoenix men's hoops team took on the Cyclones of Centenary University this evening on the road in a CSAC matchup. The Cyclones (9-10, 4-2 CSAC) defeated the Phoenix (9-10, 5-2 CSAC) by a score of 78-66. Wilson struggled to shoot well from the field, shooting only 34% for the game and just 19% from three.

How It Happened: Centenary came into the game looking to avenge their loss to the Phoenix from nearly three weeks ago, and they would do so. The Cyclones started the game hot by jumping out to a 12-2 lead only five minutes into play. Wilson gained their composure and responded with a 10-2 run to get right back into the game. Sophomore Ian Hess (Orlando, Fla., Lyman) tallied four points during the quick run, including the only three-pointer of the half for his team.

Both teams struggled to score often but with the score sitting at 23-19 with four minutes remaining in the half, the Cyclones exploded on a 13-0 run to go ahead 32-19. The Phoenix went on to score six straight points to cut the lead to seven but a Centenary bucket to end the half pushed their lead back to nine at halftime. The Phoenix ended the half shooting 1-12 from three and only 29% from the field while the Cyclones knocked down 8 three-pointers in the half.

Despite a better shooting half from the Phoenix, the Cyclones never allowed their lead to slip in the second half. Both teams traded points for the first 8 minutes of the second half, but with 10 minutes remaining the Cyclones held a 15-point advantage. Trailing 50-35, the Phoenix needed a spark to get back into the game. A nice 8-0 run brought them within 7 points, but the Cyclones answered with 7 straight points to go back up 14. Centenary was able to hold on to their lead for the remainder of the game and went on to win 78-66. Wilson shot 38% from the field in the second half but the Cyclones shot a consistant 40% including 5 more three-pointers.

Inside the Box Score: The Cyclones shot well from beyond the arc, hitting a total of 13 three-pointers in the game, the Phoenix only made 5 for the night. Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley) paced Wilson with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman Adrian Thomas (Germantown, Md., Northwest HS) also added 12 points and 7 rebounds while senior Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa., Palmyra) had 12 points as well.

Up Next: The Phoenix will host CSAC opponent Clarks Summit (0-18, 0-6 CSAC) this Saturday at 3:00 p.m. Wilson defeated the Defenders two weeks ago, 87-61.
