Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Phoenix Dominate Defenders

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.- The Wilson men's hoops team took on the Defenders of Clarks Summit University this afternoon in a CSAC matchup. The Phoenix (10-10, 6-2 CSAC) rolled to a 40-point victory over the Defenders (0-19, 0-7 CSAC) in a game where Zachary Powell (Manassas, Va., Osbourn) had 17 points to pace the Phoenix.

How It Happened: Things were close in the first five minutes of the contest before Wilson erupted on a 20-6 run to take a 31-13 lead. The Phoenix took control of the contest after that 18-point margin quickly turned into a 25-point advantage after a 12-0 run by Wilson. Ian Hess (Orlando, Fla., Lyman) started the Phoenix spurt with a three and after a few free throws, Christian White (Woodbridge, Va., Gar-Field SHS) hit a fast break jumper off of a pass from Daeshaun Johnson (Waldorf, Md., St. Charles HS). The Defenders took some momentum into halftime by finishing the half scoring nine straight points, however they still trailed 46-28 at the break.

Clarks Summit came out in the second half and immediately scored, unfortunately for the visiting Defenders, their next bucket wouldn't come for another five minutes. After allowing a score to open the half, the Phoenix took off on an 18-0 run to take a 68-30 lead. Zachary Powell had 12 of his 17 points during the 18-0 run including 2 three-pointers. Wilson continued to control the game on both ends of the floor and with just over five minutes to play they held a 39-point lead. The Phoenix poured on 52 points in the half and went on to win the game 98-58 over the Defenders.

Inside the Box Score: Offensively, Wilson shot 40% from the field and knocked down 15 three-pointers in the game to shoot 44%. Powell led the Phoenix with 17 points including 4 three-pointers. Ian Hess turned in a solid performance with 12 points and 7 rebounds and Christian White added 11 points and 6 rebounds. Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Texas, Forest Park) finished with a double-double scoring 10 points and pulling down 11 rebounds while Adrian Thomas (Germantown, Md., Northwest HS) also had 10 points. The Phoenix forced Clarks Summit into 22 turnovers in the game, scoring 31 points off of those opportunities.

Up Next: Wilson returns home this Wednesday when they host the Keystone College Giants (3-18, 2-6 CSAC) in a conference matchup at 7:00 p.m.
