Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Phoenix Gash Giants, 70-58

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.- The Wilson College women's basketball team collected their fourth straight win this evening in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) showdown. The Phoenix (10-6, 5-4 CSAC) took down the Giants of Keystone College (9-8, 6-3 CSAC) by a final score of 70-58. 

How It Happened: Wilson entered the game riding a three-game winning streak and was looking to continue their streak. The game started out with both teams trading buckets with neither one being able to establish a lead. The Blue and White would round out the first quarter leading by two, 16-14. Senior Lindsey Purvis (Fort Myers, Fla., South Fort Myers) put the Phoenix ahead thanks to two foul shots right before the end of the quarter. 

After trading buckets to open up the second quarter, Wilson started a 6-0 run that helped push them out front, 26-18. Their run was fueled by Purvis, who was able to connect on two layups, and senior Kai Wyatt (Baltimore, Md., Md Acad Tech & Hlth Sci), who also connected with a layup. After Keystone was able to knockdown a pair of foul shorts, The Phoenix would start on another 6-0 run. Freshman Tori Cole (Middleburg, Fla., Orange Park) got the run started by knocking down a jumper and Purvis added the other four points with two layups. This helped extend the Wilson lead to 32-20 with 2:38 left in the first half. The Giants would get some momentum after this, they were able to go on a quick 8-0 run that helped cut the Phoenix lead to just four points with less than a minute remaining.The Phoenix would enter halftime in the lead, 35-28.

Opening up the second half, Wyatt was able to sink a deep three-pointer that extended the Wilson lead to 10 points. The two opponents would spend the rest of the third quarter trading buckets with the Phoenix being able to keep their lead. Later on in the quarter, sophomore Michaela Singer (Annville, Pa., Annville-Cleona) found the bottom of the net after she hit a big three-pointer while Wyatt knocked down a pair of three's. The Phoenix would finish the quarter still leading, 52-40.

In the fourth quarter, Keystone would really get their offense clicking as they would try to cut into the Phoenix lead. Even with the Giants 18 point performance in the quarter, Wilson continued to hold onto the lead. Wyatt was able to add 8 points alone in the quarter alone while Singer added 5 points and a steal. The Phoenix would march on to victory by a final score of 70-58. 

Inside the Box Score: Wyatt lead both teams with a 27-point performance, Purvis finished with 20, and Singer added 13. These three combined for a total of 60 of Wilson's 70 points. Cole also added 8 points on the night. Purvis kept her double-double streak alive, she went on to grab a team high 14 rebounds, bringing her streak to six straight games. The team finished footing 55% from the floor while holding their opponents to 32%. 

Up Next: The Phoenix will be back in action this coming Thursday, January 10, where they will travel to take on the Cyclones of Centenary University (5-11, 4-4 CSAC) at 6:00 p.m.
