Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Phoenix Lasso Broncos, 91-79

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.- Looking to extend their four-game winning streak, the Wilson men's hoops team played host to the Broncos of SUNY-DELHI. The Phoenix (8-9, 4-1 CSAC) pulled out a victory against the Broncos (9-9, 0-0 ACAA) by a score of 91-79.

How It Happened: The Broncos jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead, but the Phoenix responded nicely as freshman Adrian Thomas (Germantown, Md., Northwest HS) opened up the scoring for the Phoenix and Zachary Powell (Manassas, Va., Osbourn) connected on a three-pointer. Up 19-13 with just under 8 minutes to play, the Broncos turned up their defensive pressure and forced Wilson into some turnovers which led to an 8-0 run by the visitors.

Despite trailing by 14 late in the half, the Phoenix clawed their way back into the game with a big 23-5 run to end the half and take a 36-32 lead into the locker room. The Phoenix locked down the Broncos on the defensive end and received contributions from numerous players offensively during the run.

Wilson came out of the half and quickly bumped their lead to eight with buckets from Thomas and Powell. The Broncos responded but Zachary Powell continued on what would be a career night by knocking down a three and extending the lead to eleven. The Broncos continued to try and cut down their deficit, and just when it felt like they had some momentum, Wilson answered.

With 10 minutes to play, the Phoenix remained out in front, 64-54. A quick 5-0 run by Delhi cut the Wilson lead to 7 with 8 minutes left. The Broncos were unable to capitalize on their opportunity as they let the Phoenix regain a 14-point lead with 6 minutes left. With time running out, the Broncos began to foul. Unfortunately for them, the Phoenix were automatic from the line, hitting 9 out of their 10 free throws in the final minute.

Inside the Box Score: The Phoenix hit on 39% of their shots from the field and 28% from beyond the arc. Wilson shot lights out from the foul line, shooting 30-31 for the game. Sophomore Zachary Powell had a career-high 29 points along with 12 rebounds. Adrian Thomas added 14 points while Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley) had another double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa., Palmyra) also reached double-digits with a 10 point night.

Up Next: The Phoenix will host CSAC opponent Bryn Athyn (4-13, 2-3 CSAC) this Friday at 8:00 p.m.
