Phoenix Deny Defenders

SOUTH ABINGTON Township, Pa.- The Wilson College women's basketball team took care of business on the road this afternoon as they handled the Defenders of Clarks Summit University in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) matchup.  The Phoenix (7-6, 3-4 CSAC) defeated the Defenders (0-14, 0-6 CSAC) by a final score of 53-29.

How It Happened: Sophomore Michaela Singer (Annville, Pa., Annville-Cleona)  opened things up for Wilson as she was able to knock down a three-pointer to start the game. The Phoenix started off hot as they opened the game off on an 8-0 run. In addition to Singer's three, the run was fueled by buckets from seniors Kai Wyatt (Baltimore, Md., Md Acad Tech & Hlth Sci), who drained a three, and Lindsey Purvis (Fort Myers, Fla., South Fort Myers), who connected on a layup. The Phoenix closed out the first quarter leading, 10-5. Wilson started off the second quarter on a 7-0 run with points coming from Singer and PurvisThis run helped further Wilson's lead, 17-5. Clarks Summit would close out the quarter on an 8-0 run, that brought the score to 17-13 in favor of the Phoenix.

In the opening minutes of the third quarter, the Defenders would bring the game within two points. Wilson, however, responded in a big way; Kai Wyatt was able to hit a shot from beyond the arc off a senior Amber Watkins (Honesdale, Pa, Honesdale) assist that helped start another 8-0 for the Phoenix. Wilson concluded the third quarter leading by 12 points, 33-21. Things really started to click for the Phoenix in the fourth quarter. They would score their most points in any quarter (20 points) while holding their opponent to just 8. Kai Wyatt was able to sink two three-pointers in the fourth that helped fuel the Phoenix offense. Wilson would go on to win by a final score of 53-29.
