Phoenix Roll Past Defenders for Fourth Straight Win


CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa.- The Phoenix men's basketball team traveled to Clarks Summit University for a conference contest against the Defenders. Wilson (7-9, 4-1 CSAC) captured its fourth straight victory, as they used a big first half to beat the Defenders (0-15, 0-3 CSAC) 87-61.  

How It Happened: The visiting Phoenix were hot from the start of the game, senior Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley) opened up the scoring with a layup that was followed by a Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Texas, Forest Park) triple. After a defensive stop Adams hit back-to-back three's and the Phoenix led 11-4 just three minutes into the game. Midway through the half, up 18-10, Wilson started on what would end up being a 19-4 run over the next four minutes. Freshman Adrian Thomas (Germantown, Md., Northwest HS) led the Phoenix during the run with seven points while Rashaan Bean added five. With about three minutes left in the half, the Phoenix led 42-17. The Defenders closed out the half on a 6-2 scoring run but still found themselves trailing, 44-23 going into the locker room. 

The Phoenix built off of a strong first half with a solid second half of play. By the 15:30 mark, Wilson held a commanding 56-30 lead over the Defenders. Clarks Summit showed some life by going on a 13-3 run in the ensuing minutes, cutting the Wilson lead to 16 with under 10 minutes to play. The Phoenix regrouped and quickly answered by pushing their lead back up to 19. With the score sitting at 70-54 with 5 minutes left, Zachary Powell (Manassas, Va., Osbourn)Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa., Palmyra) and Keion Adams connected on consecutive three-pointers to cement a fourth straight Phoenix victory. 

Inside the Box Score: Wilson shot 42% from the field and 39% from three, hitting 14 for the game. Keion Adams had another double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Adams shot 8-11 from the field and 5-7 from three. Rashaan Bean and Adrian Thomas both had nice games as well. Bean had 18 points and 5 rebounds while Thomas added 15 points. The Phoenix had a solid night defensively, forcing the Defenders into 19 turnovers that led to 29 Phoenix points. 

Up Next: Wilson returns home this Wednesday when they host SUNY-DELHI in a non-conference contest at 6:00 p.m.
