Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Phoenix Tame Lions

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.- The Wilson College field hockey team was back in action today as they took on the Lions of Bryn Athyn. The Phoenix (3-4, 2-1 CSAC) dominated for the entirety of the game as they were able to control the offensive possession at their end for a majority of the contest. The Lions drop to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in the CSAC.

How It Happened: It only took a minute for the Phoenix to take the lead in the game. SeniorLauren Moss (Bloomsburg, Pa., Central Columbia) was awarded a penalty stroke which she was able to capitalize on. Wilson bombarded the opposing goaltender with shots until they were able to score their next goal at the 11:49 mark. Sophomore Michaela Singer (Annville, Pa., Annville-Cleona) netted her fifth goal of the season to give the Phoenix a quick 2-0 lead. Once again Wilson attacked as they continued to get shots off against the Lion defense. With four minutes remaining in the first half of play, freshman Breeann Sheaffer (Middleburg, PA. , Midd-West) sent a shot toward the net that was deflected in by sophomore Allison Reber (Narvon, Pa., Garden Spot). The Phoenix took a 3-0 lead into halftime and came out firing on all cylinders again in the second half. Lauren Moss, who has been on fire as of late, notched her seventh goal of the season as she carried the ball across the circle and was able to beat the goalie with a shot to the left side. The Phoenix now owned a 4-0 lead just 10 minutes into the second half. Two minutes later freshman Maddy Miller (Hustontown, PA., Forbes Road) received a nice cross from none other than Lauren Moss to put the Phoenix up 5-0. At the 54:00 mark, junior Katie Shank (Waynesboro, Pa., Waynesboro) put a nice pass on the stick of Michaela Singer who was able to score her second goal of the game. The Phoenix were able to score their seventh of the game and officially put the game away just 10 minutes later. Senior Mackenzie Bindas (Pittsburgh, PA., Burrell ) scooped up a rebound off a shot from Lauren Moss and  found the back of the net.

Inside the Box Score: Wilson owned the shot column as the out shot the Lions 45-1 with 27 shots on goal. In what was an uneventful day for the Phoenix goaltenders, neither Brooke McLachlan (High Range, New South Wales, Chevalier) or Krista Nayadley (Hampton, VA, Hampton) had to make a save. Lauren Moss had 2 goals and 2 assists for the Phoenix. Michaela Singer also added 2 goals while Allison Reber, Mackenzie Bindas and Maddy Miller all had goals of their own.

Up Next: Wilson will travel to Cedar Crest College on Tuesday for a 5:00 p.m. match with the Falcons.
