Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Phoenix Scorch Gators

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - On a cool night and in a steady rain, the Wilson College field hockey team caught fire offensively in a 7-1 route of Notre Dame of Maryland University. The Phoenix (2-4, 1-1 CSAC) got a career high 4 goals from senior Lauren Moss (Bloomsburg, Pa., Central Columbia) in the victory over the Gators (05, 0-2 CSAC).

How It Happened: The Phoenix got on the board just before the midway point of the first half as sophomore Michaela Singer (Annville, Pa., Annville-Cleona) took a pass from classmate Allison Reber (Narvon, Pa., Garden Spot) and beat the Gator goalie for a 1-0 lead. Late in the opening half, the Phoenix executed a penalty corner as Reber found Moss who rattled the cage for a 2-0 advantage. Solid defense by the Phoenix limited the Gators to just one shot in the half. In the second half, the Phoenix offense got on a roll starting with the second goal of the match for Moss, who made a run on the right side and blistered the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 3-0. With less than twenty minutes left to play, the Gators received a penalty and was a player down and the Phoenix took advantage in a big way. One minute later, Singer drilled her second goal of the night with a shot from outside that hit just inside the top left of the cage for a 4-0 lead. Two minutes later, Moss struck again, this time gathering a rebound off of a shot by senior Payton Dziemburski (Rising Sun, Md., Rising Sun) and slipped it in the right side of the net to make it 5-0. After a goal by the Gators, Moss again was in the right place at the right time as she rebounded another shot from Dziemburski and again stuffed it in the cage for a 6-1 advantage. The final goal of the night came from senior Mackenzie Bindas (Pittsburgh, PA., Burrell ), who redirected a shot from freshman Breeann Sheaffer (Middleburg, PA. , Midd-West) into the top left part of the cage.

Inside the Box Score: Moss tallied a career high 4 goals and Reber added a season high 2 assists. The Phoenix held a 34-7 edge in shots including a 18-5 advantage in shots on goal. The hosts also held an 11-1 margin in penalty corners.
