Falcons Fly Past Phoenix


ALLENTOWN, Pa.- The Wilson College women's volleyball team traveled to Allentown to face the Cedar Crest College Falcons. The Phoenix (2-8, 0-1 CSAC) were swept by the Falcons (8-3, 1-0 CSAC) in three sets. 

How It Happened: Despite two of the three sets being decided by fewer than five points, the Phoenix were unable to pull off a win against Cedar Crest. In set one the Phoenix lost 25-23. The Falcons jumped out to a quick and commanding 8-0 lead with 3 kills coming from Nicole Hill. The Phoenix fought the entire set. Down 24-16 late in game one, Wilson would score six unanswered points to put themselves within one of the Falcons. The comeback came up short however, as the Falcons put game one away by scoring the next point to win. 

In set two the Phoenix fell 25-5. Cedar Crest commanded the set early once again and this time they didn't let up. The Falcons ran away with the game scoring 12 unanswered at one point before Wilson was able to get another kill. In the final set the Phoenix once again battled with the Falcons. Cedar Crest got out to an early 9-3 lead but the Phoenix were able to soar back into the match. Down 19-15 late, Wilson rallied to bring the match to a 19-19 tie. The Falcons were able to withstand another comeback by scoring the six points they needed to win the set 25-21. 

Inside the Box Score: The Phoenix were led in kills by freshman Tioleaoauli Posiulai (Waipahu, HI., University Laboratory School) with six, and senior Hanna Quarry (Elizabethtown, Pa., Elizabethtown) with five. Freshman Kristina Zuniga (McAllen, TX., King George) had 11 assists while adding 10 digs. Sophomore Sierra Hill (Hagerstown, Md., South Hagerstown) had a solid night defensively as she led Wilson with 15 digs. 

Up Next: The Phoenix will return home this Saturday to host Keystone College in another CSAC match at 3 p.m.
