Seahawks Soar Over Phoenix


ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The Wilson College field hockey team was back in action for the second consecutive day with a road trip to St. Mary's College of Maryland. The Seahawks (2-4) topped the Phoenix (1-4) by a final score of 6-0.

How It Happened: During a ten minute span midway through the first half, the Seahawks took complete control of the match. Leading 1-0 already, the hosts rattled off four goals to push the lead to 5-0. Just before the half, the Phoenix tried to get on the board off of a penalty corner but shots by sophomore's Jenna Carty (Chambersburg, Pa., Greencastle-Antrim) and Michaela Singer (Annville, Pa., Annville-Cleona) were off target and the visitors trailed 5-0 at the break. In the second half the Phoenix defense played well, holding the Seahawks to just 1 goal and 2 shots on goal, but the offense could get going as senior Lauren Moss (Bloomsburg, Pa., Central Columbia) took the lone shot on goal which was corralled by the Seahawks keeper. The Seahawks went on for a 6-0 victory.

Inside the Box Score: The Seahawks held a 19-6 advantage in shots including an 11-1 edge in shots on goal. The edge in penalty corners went to the hosts as well 10-5. Moss and freshman Breeann Sheaffer (Middleburg, PA. , Midd-West) led the offensive attack with two shots on goal each.

Up Next: Wilson will be back in action on Wednesday with a road trip to Notre Dame of Maryland University.
