Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Draws with Bethany

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.- Not even double overtime could decide a winner between the Wilson College men's soccer team and Bethany College as they tied 0-0 in a game in which nine cards were handed out. The Phoenix overall record goes to 1-3-2 while Bethany moves to 2-5-2.

How It Happened: Bethany attacked quickly as Tony Cirri registered the first shot of the game just 21 seconds into the match. The Phoenix responded nicely however by taking the next five shots of the contest, one of which was saved by the Bison goalie Torben Grether. Play leveled out for most of the remainder of the first half until Wilson had two good chances to score off shots from junior Oliver Perry (London, England, Okanagan Secondary) and senior Carson Tagner (Sound Beach, N.Y., Rocky Point). Once again the Bison were on the attack early in the half by sending three shots toward the net. Junior Dan Perry (London, England, Okanagan Secondary) was able to scoop up two of the shots while the third went wide off a header. The two teams traded shots for the remainder of the half but neither was able to capitalize on their opportunities. In the first overtime only one shot was taken by either team. Sophomore Samuel Appiah (Kumasi, Ghana, Opoku Ware School) generated a chance just before time expired but the shot was stopped by the Bison goalie. Senior Justin Vizzi (Spotswood, NJ, Spotswood) had a good opportunity to give his team the win in the second overtime as he sent a header to the net but Grether made another save for his team. Time expired in the second overtime with the scoreboard showing a 0-0 draw.

Inside the Box Score: Wilson out shot the Bison 18-11 for the match. The Phoenix also had eight corner kicks in the game. Dan Perry had eight saves on the day. Wilson was hit with four of the nine total cards given in the match.

Up Next: The team will travel to Penn State Harrisburg this Tuesday for a 2:00 p.m. match.
