Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Phoenix Come Up Short Against Giants

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.- Conference play for the Wilson College women's field hockey team began today as they went up against the Keystone College Giants. The Phoenix suffered their third loss of the season to fall to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the CSAC. With the win, the Giants improve to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in the CSAC.

How It Happened: Wilson was unable to capitalize on their chances early in the game. Freshman Breeann Sheaffer (Middleburg, PA. , Midd-West) had the first shot for the Phoenix which was kicked away by the Giants goaltender. That save was followed up by freshman Maddy Miller (Hustontown, PA., Forbes Road) who had two chances to score both of which were saved by Emily Hawkins. In the fifteenth minute Keystone forced a penalty corner. Jackie Martin of Keystone took a shot that was swatted away by Phoenix goaltender Brooke McLachlan (High Range, New South Wales, Chevalier). Unfortunately for Wilson, the shot was rebounded and put in the net by Allison Berman to give the Giants a 1-0 lead. Seven minutes later Berman struck again, this time coming off a wide shot by Keystone that bounced off of an official and right to her. Berman proceeded to slap the ball in the net to give her team a 2-0 lead. The Phoenix answered quickly however as they forced a penalty corner of their own. Sophomore Allison Reber (Narvon, Pa., Garden Spot) was able to redirect a shot from a teammate and bring the Phoenix within one. The Giants controlled the second half of play by outshooting the Phoenix 11-1. Despite outshooting Wilson in the second half, Keystone only registered one goal which came from Savanna Robinson who fired a rocket from the top of the circle with just under 12 minutes to play.

Inside the Box Score: Wilson tallied eight shots for the game, four of which were on goal. Brooke McLachlan registered four saves whileBreeann Sheaffer and Michaela Singer each had assists. Allison Reber had the lone goal for the Phoenix.

Up Next: The Phoenix have a quick turnaround as they head to St. Mary's College of Maryland tomorrow for a 1:00 p.m. start.
