Women's Volleyball Goes 1-2 at Quad Match


WINCHESTER, Va.- The Wilson women's volleyball team competed at a quad match involving Marywood University, University of Pitt-Greensburg and Shenandoah University. The Phoenix finished the day with a record of 1-2 which moves their overall record to 1-7. 

In the first match the Phoenix went head-to-head with the Pacers of Marywood University. Despite winning set two of the match, Wilson lost the contest 3-1. The Phoenix were lead by Freshman Tioleaoauli Posiulai (Waipahu, HI., University Laboratory School) who paced the way with 14 kills and 16 digs. Junior Laury Jean Baptiste (Fort Lauderdale, Fl., Coconut Creek) also had 8 kills of her own. Freshman Kristina Zuniga (McAllen, TX., King George) had a total of 25 assists and 5 aces in the match. Wilson tallied 32 kills in the contest while adding 12 aces. 

The Phoenix battled the University of Pitt-Greensburg in match number two. The Phoenix were able to capture their first win of the season by defeating the Bobcats 3-0. Senior Hanna Quarry (Elizabethtown, Pa., Elizabethtown) and Tioleaoauli Posiulai each had 7 kills in the contest. Freshman Tia Jones (Springfield, VA., Lake Braddock) had 6 kills of her own while also leading the Phoenix with 13 digs. The Phoenix finished with 27 kills having 9 in each set. They also had 11 aces in the contest. 

To finish the day Wilson went up against the host team the Shenandoah University Hornets. The Hornets came in hot as they looked to win their third match of the day. They were able to complete the sweep of the competition by defeating the Phoenix in three sets. Tioleaoauli Posiulai continued to play well by leading her team with 10 kills. Kristina Zuniga added another 19 assists to her season total while also adding 14 digs. Tia Jones also had 13 digs and Laury Jean Baptiste contributed another 12. Wilson had 25 kills and 59 digs in their final match of the day. 

Up Next: The Phoenix will pick things up next Saturday when they host Trinity of Washington, D.C. at 3 pm at Gannett Memorial Field House.
