Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Phoenix Fall to Hornets on the Road

WINCHESTER, Va.- Despite jumping out to an early lead, the Phoenix men's soccer team was unable to capture their second win of the season against Shenandoah University. The Hornets won the match 3-1 improving to 2-2-1 overall. With the loss, the Phoenix fall to 1-3-1.

How It Happened: Wilson wasted zero time scoring as sophomore Samuel Appiah (Kumasi, Ghana, Opoku Ware School) netted his first goal of the season just eight minutes into the game. Senior Aaron Russ (Honolulu, Hawaii) was attributed with the assist adding to his team leading seven points. The Hornets were able to get back in the game when Chance Hollins scored to tie things at one. Ten minutes later Shenandoah struck again this time coming off the foot of Derrick David. After grabbing an early lead, the Phoenix found themselves trailing at the half 2-1. The Phoenix were able to get some shots on net in the second half all of which were scooped up by the Hornets goalkeeper Sam Fischer. With 10 minutes to play Shenandoah put themselves ahead for good as Nick Seymour scored to put his team up 3-1.

Inside the Box Score: The Phoenix were only able to register five shots on goal, two of which came from Samuel Appiah. Freshman Andrew Hetzer (Chambersburg, PA., Cumberland Valley Christian) had six saves on the night. The Phoenix only had three corner kicks in the game while Shenandoah had ten.

Up Next: Wilson will have nearly a week off before they host Mount Aloysius College on Tuesday September 18 at 4:00 pm.
