Women's Volleyball Competes at Cougar Clash


DALLAS, Pa.- The Phoenix women's volleyball team traveled to Misericordia University last weekend for an invitational involving St. Joseph's College Long Island, the University of Pitt-Bradford, Misericordia and Moravian College.

In the first match the Phoenix faced off against St. Joseph's Long Island. Wilson lost the match in straight sets against the Golden Eagles. FreshmanTioleaoauli Posiulai (Waipahu, HI., University Laboratory School) led the Phoenix in the opening match with seven kills and ten digs. Freshman Kristina Zuniga (McAllen, TX., King George) had ten assists in the contest. Wilson totaled 18 kills in the opener.

To wrap up the first day of play the Phoenix battled the University of Pitt-Bradford Panthers. The Panthers were able to control each set winning the match 3-0.Tioleaoauli Posiulai led her team in kills with six while also adding ten digs. Junior Laury Jean Baptiste (Fort Lauderdale, Fl., Coconut Creek) had three blocks to lead the Phoenix.

Wilson began the second day of the invitational by playing the host school, Misericordia University. The Cougars won the match in three sets. Despite the loss, Tioleaoauli Posiulai picked up where she left off by once again leading with the Phoenix with six kills. Senior Hanna Quarry (Elizabethtown, Pa., Elizabethtown) also had five kills for the game. Kristina Zuniga tallied 17 assists in the match. The Phoenix had 23 kills while freshman Tia Jones (Springfield, VA., Lake Braddock) had four aces.

The Phoenix took on Moravian College in their final match of the invitational, which ended in a 3-0 loss to the Greyhounds. Hanna Quarry had eight kills to lead all Phoenix players. Tia Jones had 20 of her team's 45 digs. Wilson only registered 14 kills in the final contest.

Tioleaoauli Posiulai was named to the Cougar Clash All-Tournament Team as she registered 20 kills and 27 digs throughout the invitational.

Up Next: The team will head to Shenandoah University this Saturday for a four team invitational with Marywood University, the University of Pitt-Greensburg and the host team Shenandoah.
