Women's Volleyball Drops Home Opener

Chambersburg, Pa.- The Wilson College women's volleyball team hosted Hollins University to start off their 2018 season. The Phoenix (0-1) fought hard and battled back but fell to Hollins (1-0), 3 sets to 0. 

How It Happened: Wilson started off strong in the first set, going back and forth with their opponent. However, Hollins started to take the lead and never looked back during the first set closing it out 25-19. In the second set, the Phoenix came out hot and took the early lead during the set, however after a timeout by Hollins, Wilson started to lose momentum and ultimately lost the set 25-15. Hollins came out strong in the third set and took an early lead. The Phoenix scrapped back and battled their opponent with several nice rallies. Hollins, however, managed to come out on top winning the final set 28-26.

Inside The Box Score: Freshman Tia Jones (Springfield, VA., Lake Braddock) dished out 2 kills while Sophomore Lizzy Farnes (Coconut Creek, Fl., Coral Springs) added 2 kills of her own in the first set. Freshman Tioleaoauli Posiulai (Waipahu, HI., University Laboratory School) led the team with a total of eleven kills on the night. Freshman Kristina Zuniga (McAllen, TX., King George) led both teams with 24 assists during the match. Hollins ended the night with 27 kills while Wilson had 26 kills.

Up Next: The Phoenix will travel to Dallas, Pa. for their next game on Friday, September 7, where they will play two games against St. Joseph's College- LI and University of Pittsburgh at Bradford at 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm, respectively.
