Wolves Pounce on Phoenix


KEUKA PARK, N.Y. - The Wilson College women's basketball team hit the road for a North Eastern Athletic Conference match-up with Keuka College. The Wolves (14-5, 9-3 NEAC) topped the Phoenix (9-11, 4-7 NEAC) by a final score of 85-54.

How It Happened: The Phoenix jumped out to an early lead with buckets by juniors Jordyn Day (Richmond, Va, Varina) and Amber Watkins (Honesdale, Pa, Honesdale). Later in the first quarter while trailing by six points, a layup by junior Lindsey Purvis (Fort Myers, Fl, South Fort Myers) made the score 19-14 in favor of the Wolves who would go on to close out the opening frame with a 23-15 lead. Back-to-back scores by sophomore Kristen Burdo (Norristown, Pa., Perkiomen School) and Purvis got the Phoenix started in the second quarter, but the Wolves went on a 13-3 run to open up a 36-22 advantage and eventually they took a 43-28 lead into halftime. Day opened up the second half just like she did the first with a three-pointer, but the offense would sputter after that as the Phoenix managed only 9 third quarter points and the Wolves extended their lead to 24 points at 61-37 after three quarters. Although the Phoenix continued to battle in the last period, the visitors couldn't mount a comeback as the Wolves went on for the 85-54 win.

Inside the Box Score: Day paced the Phoenix with 15 points while junior Ashley Henderson (Upper Marlboro, Md., North Point) added 12 points and 2 assists. Purvis was the only other Phoenix to score in double-digits with 10 points while tallying 6 rebounds. Burdo added a points and a team high 8 boards.
