Men's Volleyball Takes Two


ANNONDALE ON THE HUDSON, N.Y. - The Wilson College men's volleyball team claimed a pair of non-conference wins to move to 4-0 on the season with victories over Bard College and Keuka College. With the  two wins the Phoenix are off to the best start in the short history of the program.

How It Happened: In the opening match versus Bard, the Phoenix defeated the Raptors (0-6) by a score of 3-1 and by set scores of 25-20, 25-15, 23-25, and 25-18. Junior Aaron Hoke (Chambersburg, Pa., Commonwealth Connections Academy) was on fire as he recorded a career high 24 kills. Sophomore Ian Firestone (York, Pa., York Suburban) was in a giving mood as he tallied a career high 51 assists to go along with 8 digs, while classmate Nick Baxter (Denver, Pa., Cocalico) added 16 kills. For the match the Phoenix had 62 kills against 22 errors on 144 attempts for an attacking percentage of .278, while the Raptors managed 33 kills against 19 errors on 112 attempts for a .125 attacking percentage.

In the second match of the day, the Phoenix battled Keuka College, defeating the Wolves (0-4) by a score of 3-1 and by set scores of 25-20, 25-23, 17-25, and 25-19. Baxter had a solid all around match as he led the team with 14 kills and 3 blocks, while adding 2 service aces and 2 assists. Freshman Carlos Jimenez (Miami Beach. FL., FLVS) added 12 kills and 3 service aces while Aaron Hoke added 10 kills and 9 digs. Junior Evan Hoke (Chambersburg, Pa., Commonwealth Connections Academy) had a team high 14 digs.

Up Next: Wilson will have their home opener and conference opener on Saturday, February 17 versus Lancaster Bible College at 12:00 p.m.
