Men's Hoops Feasts On Wolves

KEUKA PARK. N.Y. - The Wilson College men's basketball team stayed hot by defeating North Eastern Athletic Conference foe Keuka College by a 92-75 margin. The Phoenix (14-6, 8-3 NEAC) have now won 8 of the last 9 and remain in second place in the NEAC South Division.

How It Happened: Balanced scoring, solid defense and depth remain key to the success of the Phoenix. All five regular starters average double-digits in points per game and this afternoon freshman Cole Christian (Chambersburg, PA., Chambersburg) stepped into the starting line-up to replace injured junior Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa., Palmyra) and added 16 points to help the offense remain firing on all cylinders. The first half of the game was tight even though the Phoenix managed to jump out to a 12 point advantage at the midway point on the strength of three-point baskets on three straight possessions by senior Martez Beckett (Randallstown, Md., Chapelgate Christian) and freshman Zachary Powell (Manassas, Va., Osbourn). The Wolves (9-10, 7-5 NEAC) managed to claw their way back into the game during the final four minutes of the half to pull within six points at 43-37 at the break. A 9-2 run by the Phoenix to open the second half, highlighted by three-pointers by junior Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley) and sophomore Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Tx, Forest Park) pushed the lead to 52-41. However, the Wolves would slowly chip away at the Phoenix lead and pull within three points at 54-51 with thirteen minutes to go. Again, the Phoenix responded, this time with a 10-2 run capped off by a layup from Christian as the visitors held a double-digit lead at the ten minute mark. Later in the half, senior Willie McDowell (Baltimore, MD, Augusta Fells Savage Institute) went on a 6-0 run of his own to push the Phoenix lead back to fourteen points at 79-65. The Wolves would never threaten the rest of the way as the Phoenix cruised to the 92-75 victory.

Inside the Box Score: All five Phoenix starters scored in double-digits led by 20 points and 9 rebounds from Adams. Christian added 16 points while McDowell tallied 13 points and a game high 7 assists. Powell and Bean added 12 points and 11 points respectively. The Phoenix held a 20-14 advantage in points off the bench and a 14-10 edge in second chance points.
